Scrum emphasizes the product owner's role in prioritizing the backlog and building the highest priority features first. But do features equal value? How can teams ensure they are delivering value to business stakeholders?

This interactive presentation goes beyond epics, features and user stories. Attendees will learn proven techniques for translating business strategies into business objectives, selecting the best design ideas and measuring the team's output as value delivered. All this in a light, agile manner.



Using a combination of lecture and small group exercises, attendees will work hands on helping a non-profit organization turn their 2009 business strategy into a set of measurable business objectives. Next, attendees will brainstorm which projects should be pursued to help them reach their highest priority objectives. Finally, using Impact Estimation, attendees will learn a quick way to determine which project delivers the biggest "bang for the buck" and should be pursued first.

The method presented is complimentary to Agile methods such as Scrum or XP. By the end, attendees will learn not only how to solve the problem right, but how to solve the right problem...a key missing component in Agile methods.
